You can export data from two places in PEER for Research: the "Export Data" widget that's accessible from your portal menu, or the "Search registry data" feature (which is accessed from the main menu on the left hand side of PEER for Research).

"Export Data" is useful in two scenarios: if you're trying to do a simple export of data out of the system for your live portal, or if you'd like to export your demo data (as this is the only way to view data from your demo portal). Using "Export Data" you can export all survey data for all time, or you can export a subset of data from specific surveys or specific time periods (or a combination of both).

Exporting data from the "Search registry data" feature is useful if you'd like to do a bit more segmentation of your data before exporting - for instance, segmenting data based on participants' survey status (complete or in progress), or based on some information about the participants (their age, gender, etc). This tool is only available for live portals.

Accessing Export Files

After you export your data, you'll see a pop-up that says:

Your requested file is in queue. Please check status in My Exports tab.

Click on the My Exports link to go to your downloads. Your exports are queued and stored there for up to one year after the date exported.

It may take a bit of time for the system to finish exporting your data, depending on how big your data set is. If you refresh the My Exports page and still don't see that your export is ready, you can navigate away - the system will send you an email once export is complete.

You can access your exports at any time using the main menu to the left of PEER for Research. Simply click on "My Exports" (   ).

Making Sense Of Your Exports

If you chose to export contact information with your data export, your excel file will look something like this, and will include fields for participant foreign key (used to link participants to survey data, if they allow it), age, address, phone number, and email. The export will also include fields for account creation date, and for that participant’s privacy settings for “Get Contact” and “Export/Link”, as they pertain to the privacy directive you belong to.

If you chose to export survey information, your Excel sheet will also contain a third tab, with Survey Responses. This includes fields for participant foreign key, export access (survey data is not displayed if you belong to a privacy directive for which the export settings is “Ask Me” or “Deny”), Survey ID (used to distinguish between different surveys in the PEER backend), Instance ID (used to distinguish between multiple “takes” of a survey, if participants are able to take your survey multiple times), Answer ID (a unique ID assigned to individual responses in the PEER backend), Date Answered (timestamp for the specific response), Question Name (the text that appears in the “Question” label in the PEER Survey Toolkit, and as “Question” in your survey data dictionaries), Question ID (a unique identifier assigned to each question, which links to question metadata in the “Survey Responses” tab of the export), and Response (participant’s response to a given question).
